Not content to simply retread the ground covered by their debut EP, 2001's A New Set of Lungs, Cryonics doesn't set out to smash expectations, but in fact sidesteps them without breaking stride. The ferocity and power that is their trademark is left intact, and is tempered and accentuated by the band's williness to venture beyond the tired hardcore cliches and insipid formulas that are all too common nowadays. Cryonics is easily Hot Cross' most challenging, yet anthemic effort yet.
